Further Thoughts and Questions on Colossians 1:15-20

This is one of my all time favorite passages in the Bible. It is jam packed with Christology (theology of Jesus) and who he is as God.

In a world full of relativism and obscure truth, it is important that we pay much closer attention to the Gospel of Christ (Hebrews 2:1) so that we do not drift away from the Truth and Grace of the cross of Christ. Paul warns Timothy that the day is near when people will drift away from the Truth and will believe whatever they want to believe (2 Timothy 4:3).

It is vital, as Christians, that we grasp the deity of Jesus. Below are some quotes about Jesus from some of the people who have strongly influenced our world.

“I believe that what Jesus, Mohammad and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.” – John Lennon

“One of the biggest mistakes humans make is to believe there is only one way. Actually, there are many diverse paths leading to what you call God.” – Oprah

“His death on the cross was a great example to the world, but that here was anything like a mysterious virtue in it, my heart could no accept.” – Gandhi

“I’m going to die! Jesus, Allah, Buddha- I love you all!” – Homer Simpson

Questions to ask

What does the passage say about Jesus?

What views of Christ do I have that don’t line up with this passage?

How does my knowledge of Christ affect my walk with Christ?
